In the spring of 2014, the George Washington University (GW) Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program moved into a new, state of the art facility, increasing the teaching laboratory and research space by more than fifty six percent. Located at 2000 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, we are located in the heart of the Foggy Bottom neighborhood. We are easily accessible via public transit, whether it is Metrorail, Metrobus, or Capital Bikeshare – we have got you covered! Students have access to many University resources, as well as retail vendors inside in the building and around the adjacent city blocks. The program space is open and available to students 24/7.
Facility Highlights
Student Lounge
Students have their own lounge space where they can relax, read, and discuss the latest lecture or lab. The lab space is complete with built-in benches, many power outlets for computing devices, and feature stools called ‘buoys,’ which help promote and maintain optimal posture. Students may also remain connected to campus events through the School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) digital screens.
Lecture Rooms
Each lecture room is equipped with 90” LCD TVs that are wired for teleconferencing capabilities. Students are encouraged to actively use technology in order to seek the latest evidence to support practice decisions. GW also adopted mobile chairs called ‘pods,’ which enable students to move their chairs to whatever vantage point best fits their learning style and optimizes group learning activities.
Labs
The DPT program’s labs are sunny, inviting spaces flanked by windows on two sides. Each lab is equipped with an AV system featuring several LCD TVs and mounted ceiling cameras. Instead of crowding around a single demonstration table, students are able to view faculty demonstrations on the various TV monitors throughout the labs. As noted above, the laboratory space is available 24/7 for student practice.
Student Library
The DPT program maintains a student library of relevant textbooks students may use as reference materials. The library is located in various rooms throughout the PT suite and is accessible.
Lockers
Each admitted student receives a locker where students may place personal belongings during classes or between errands on campus. The DPT program provides each student with a lock to secure their belongings.
